Showing House Of Cardamom

Zain Saleh
BolBola
Hassandra

With BolBola & Hassandra. Dramaturgy by Zain Saleh.

“House of Cardamom” is a coffee-reading ceremony. The performance mixes drag and storytelling with the cultural significance of coffee rituals, particularly coffee-reading settings in the Arabic speaking region. What is the therapeutic and communal space that is provided by coffee gatherings - for example in the morning? Through rituals, movements and various multimedia elements, Arab* drag artists BolBola and Hassandra use their shared experiences and collective memory as the foundation for this intimate exploration of identity, community, and tradition. This performance offers a space for celebration, mourning, and rest as BolBola and Hassandra reflect on their experiences as queer Arabs* in [exile].

Note: Arab* denotes inclusivity of diverse identities and ethnicities within Southwest Asia and North Africa.
