All The Rivers TIMEWISE: Open Call for Group Residencies Dance 2026

What is it about?
ausland offers residencies for groups of 3 to 5 persons. You will receive rehearsal and production time, a grant of 2000 € per person and artistic and technical support to research and realise your project.

Who can apply?
We are focusing this year on artists over 40 and are looking forward to applications with non-linear CV´s and unorthodox pathways.

Why?
Whether we can pursue an artistic career without obstacles depends on background and resources, gender and life choices, relationships, family responsibilities, migration, or simply wide-ranging interests. Mid-way through your journey you may suddenly find yourself “too old” for many funding opportunities, even though your situation speaks more to systemic exclusion and barriers than personal achievement or artistic development.

The residencies are explicitly directed at all cultural workers involved in creating a performance including, for example, light, sound, and video designers, dramaturgs or integrated access collaborators.

Which projects are we looking for?
Your theme can be anything; however, we are looking in particular for projects who seek exchange, solidarity and mutual learning in the world: projects that answer back, that reach out to the community, and can explore their environment through a brave, aware and queerfeminist lens.

We prioritise projects that integrate accessibility into their work and planning as an essential part of the research and work process.

What do you get?
You will receive from us:

  • technical support and advice
  • support with questions on production matters
  • “outside eye” content/artistic advice
  • support with accessibility contacts and outreach
  • support with photo and video documentation
  • A one-month grant of €2000 per person.

The grant is divided into:

  • 10 days of of research + preparation, documentation and evaluation

Residencies at ausland - General

ausland offers residencies for performing arts and dance. We provide space and time to collect material, make technical and other experiments and develop a piece. Since 2010 nthere have over a 100 residencies taken place at ausland.

At the end of a residency artists share their (intermediate) results in front of a small audience at ausland. The format of this presentation is to be decided by the artist. We address all artists and cultural workers, Focusing on groups and individuals who have been and are still excluded from funding due to (multiple) discrimination. The focus of our residency is on an inclusive and diverse casting. We welcome projects that engage with the world in a courageous, awake, consistent, persistent and queerfeminist way.

We always offer the space, technical equipment, technical help and an outside eye. We apply for funding to support the artists financially during the residencies. In the case of funding we publish a residency open call, and summon a jury.

The ausland residency program has been funded by Berliner Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt, in the frame of Pilotprojekt Residenzförderung Tanz and in the frame of Spartenoffene Förderung.
