Kerstin Cmelka studied art in Frankfurt/Main with Monika Schwitte, Thomas Bayrle and Simon Starling.

Since 2000 she has shown her films on festivals all over Europe. Apart from that she works with photographic reworkings of film stills, which are being shown at galleries, melting both mediums into performances — known as "microdramas" — which act as reflexive commentaries on the poles of art and life by blurring the line dividing staging from reality.
