Luc Ex

ac. bass, composer, sound artist

Born as Luc Klaasen in 1958.

Has been on stage from 1983 ( THE EX , 1983-2003) throughout Europe and beyond.

With the The Ex winner of the BV popprijs 1991 and many international tours and collaborations with national and international artists such as Fugazi, Sonic Youth, ICP among others.

After leaving The Ex he formed and played in groups such as ROOF (w/ Phil Minton & Tom Cora) ; 4WALLS (Phil Minton, Veryan Weston) and the “chamber ensemble” SOL6 and the larger version SOL12.

He has also worked in numerous collaborations with Kamagurka, Franz Hautzinger's Regenorchestra (W/ Christian Fennesz & Otomo Yoshihide), SPEEQ (with Sidsel Endresen), Rubatong (Han Buhrs, Tatiana Koleva, Thijs Elzinga) and his own 'jazz quartet', among others: Luc Ex' Assemblee (w/Ingrid Laubock, Hamid Drake, Ab Baars).

Recently he has been playing in trio BLIK with young singer Annelie King drummer Tristan Renfrow, impro-trio EX CHEN VIBE (w/ Audrey Chen & DJ Illvibe (Vincent van Schlippenbach) and the French quartet BRIQUE including pianist Eve Risser. 

Compositions.
In addition to numerous songs for the groups mentioned above, in 2018 he created his first “long composition”: for his 9-piece ensemble “Music Of Inevitable Sounds. In these compositions, the worlds of 'natural sounds' mingle with those of music. 
In 2020 he completed his second 70 min composition titled 'Urbanique'.
His fascination with sound has also translated into an installation OBJET SONORE. Designed by sculptor Peter Zegveld. The horn will be set up in the public space and perform a composition composed purely of urban sounds. It premiered in August 2021.
