Bernhard Wöstheinrich
Bernhard Wöstheinrich is a sound artist, musician, improviser, painter, and graphic designer. Active since the late 1980s, he explores the boundaries between abstract and less abstract, experimental and ambient-oriented electronic music, which he primarily creates through live improvisational setups.
A collaborative spirit, Wöstheinrich is a co-founder and member of projects such as centrozoon and TaboTago. In addition, he regularly works with international artists in a variety of changing constellations. Since around 2002, he has also performed under the alter ego The Redundant Rocker.
Wöstheinrich's work is distinguished by a synesthetic interplay between visual art (painting and graphic design) and electronic sound. At the heart of his practice are free improvisation, the exploration of sonic textures, in-depth acoustic research, and a performative, process-oriented approach that unfolds in the moment.
Alongside a steady stream of studio releases, he also maintains an ongoing live performance practice. This includes the acclaimed Polyphony Performance Series, through which he regularly invites fellow artists to participate in collaborative sessions.
Bernhard Wöstheinrich was born in 1968 in Herzebrock (district of Gütersloh), Germany. After training as a cabinetmaker and studying graphic design and visual communication, he relocated to Berlin, where he continues to live and work as an independent artist.
